Skaters’ Dreams Coming True for New South Walton Skate Park

For over ten years, skateboarders in Walton County have been dreaming of a new skate park. Those dreams are now close to coming true.

Walton County has allocated 20,000 square feet of space at Helen McCall Park off U.S. Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach for a new skating facility. Walton Skate Society is now making a major fundraising push to help bring the project to fruition.

Listen to this 30A Radio interview with Justin Gaffrey, a local artist and skater, about the project:

Walton Skate Society is holding a major fundraiser, SK8 Deck-O, on February 20.

Local art legends, area VIPs and guest artists from across the country are creating works of art out of blank skate decks. These decks will on display and auctioned to the highest bidder at the event, with all proceeds going to Walton County to fund the new skate park.

The event will be held at Trebeaché, Stinky’s Chef Jim Richard’s latest venture. He will prepare “skate-inspired” grinders and other special menu items. The Owsley Brothers will perform.

Tickets are $30 ($15 for students).
