Fifth Annual ‘Digital Graffiti’ Festival Calls for Entries

Alys Beach and Visit South Walton invite artists from around the globe to submit original digital artwork for the Fifth Annual Digital Graffiti Festival, a one-of-a-kind juried venue for projected art. Artists will compete for $10,000 in prize money, awarded in five categories. All work selected for the 2012 festival will be eligible for the awards, to be held on June 8-9, 2012.

Alys Beach opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to groundbreaking international artists who literally transform the entire resort town into a living work of art. The annual festival allows digital artists to explore how their fluid forms intersect with technology and wrap the architecture of Alys Beach to create entirely new art forms.

Digital Graffiti, over a short period of time, has become irrevocably linked to Alys Beach,” said Town Architect Marieanne Khoury-Vogt. “Watching our beautiful, stark, white-washed walls and roofs become completely transformed by the colorful and evocative swirling pieces of digital art is truly an inspiring experience. The projected vivid images that mold and melt against the backdrop of our sculptural architecture is fascinating to observe. One can meander through the paths and parks of our town and contemplate all of the different pieces of digital graffiti, at times set to music, and at times powerfully silent.”

An additional evening at this year’s festival includes an open air salon, where artists are available to discuss their work with guests. During the festival weekend, various art workshops, hosted by Alys Beach in conjunction with the Cultural Arts Alliance, are available for all to attend.

DID YOU KNOW? The very first Digital Graffiti festival was rained out. Although very few of that year's digital exhibits were displayed, the ensuing party was such a huge success that Alys Beach gave Digital Graffiti another shot the following year.
