Kids Get Chance to Spend Their Summer on the Stage

   

    Emerald Coast Theatre Company, a non-profit professional theatre company, has announced their educational theatre camp schedule for summer 2016.

    Classes will begin June 6, and will be offered for children preschool-aged through ninth grade.

    The Theatre Company will offer four different camps divided by age groups. All camps will end with a final performance for parents and friends to enjoy.

    “This will be our fourth year of offering summer camps to the children of the Emerald Coast,” said Nathanael Fisher, producing artistic director of the Theatre Company. “It is near and dear to our mission to provide these opportunities to our community.”

    Little Rascals Camp encourages children to begin exploring the world of theatre and is for children age 4 through first grade. Lion King-themed classes begin in Destin on June 6, and in Santa Rosa Beach on July 11. Mermaids and Musketeers-themed classes will also begin in Santa Rosa Beach on June 6.

    The Theatre Company also offers a one-week, non-musical version of Beauty and the Beast Production Camp for children entering grades 2-8.  This camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended hours available in Santa Rosa Beach, Panama City, Crestview, Fort Walton Beach and Destin with varying start dates beginning June 6.

    Camp Showtime is for children grades 2-8 and focuses on Broadway music and choreography from popular musical numbers as well as theatre games and improvisation. The camp will be offered in Destin, Panama City and Santa Rosa Beach with varying start dates and times beginning June 6.

    The Theatre Company’s two-week musical, ‘Annie Jr.’, for children grades 3-9, will be held in Destin beginning June 13 and in Panama City on July 18. The classes will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended hours available.

    The Theatre Company offers scholarships to assist with tuition for classes and camps.

    The Theater Company is also running an Instagram contest. To win a free week of summer camp, just tag ec_theatre_co with a picture of yourself or your child being “dramatic” with the hashtag #ECTCSummerOnStage. One winner will be selected on May 15.

    Camps tuition starts at $109 with a $20 t-shirt/registration fee. The tuition goes up from there depending on the full-day or half-day to one-week to two-week variables of each camp.
